I'm always looking for new good SciFi and District 9 was just that.  Its kind of a ripoff of Alien Nation and Halflife 2, but who gives a damn.  It was done very well and had an interesting thing going with its Mockumentary style of filming and cool set design.  Apparently it was made on a small budget but I couldn't tell, the concept art and special effects were spot on.  I think the key these days to good special FX is slashing the budget in half, that way the director realizes he has to have a good story and good cinematography.  This movie was everything Transformers 2 (worst movie of all time) was not.

Also just saw Surrogates, which, while not being good, was enjoyable and had some potential.  Almost everything was done well, but I guess the problem was I didn't care about the main characters.  Cool movie anyway.

Inglorious Bastards is the best thing I've seen this year.  Quintin Tarantino is magic with dialogue, jokes, and raging violence.  This movie might be as good as Pulp Fiction, but I got to see it a few more times.  I can usually tell when a movie is classic by the 4th viewing.

I love your gallery!

Thank you. There are some interesting photos in your gallery. I would explore some of those closeups even more, such as the egg arrangement. I've always considered them to be minilandscapes.

Wtf! Your gallery is freaking amazing!! How in the hell do you get so little views? Something is not right here. You should spend two hours making some massive submissions to some groups and you'll easily be one of the most known artists on this site...

AMAZING stuff.

Well thanks to you, I have one more view. :)

Yes I submit rather irregularly. There are a lot of more talented artists on this site though.

lol where you @?

you should check in weekly so i know you're still alive!! XD

Yes I'm barely alive. I've been watching every episode of Farscape on my Netflix account and am at season 3 now. Show is fucking cool. Space Sci Fi at its dorkiest and funnest.

I see that its summer time for you! Do you have a big plan? :) Or is it summer school :(
Are you going to ComicCon this year? I wasn't able to get tickets this year so I'm probably going to wait out in front and see if I can buy someone's badge for one of the days. Tickets are gone months in advance now.

what about paintings? any movement on that front?

it is summer 8D which means working on my thesis. almost got a job but decided just to focus on my pages and sculpts ^^

no way i can afford to go south to comic con - it's not really very manga friendly as i've been told, so there's not much for me there. i WILL have a table at ape if all goes as planned tho! which i am excited for ^^

lol i'm sure you'll get in - if not buy one then find it ;D

you out there?
Spivak000 Featured By Owner Jan 13, 2010
Hey there,

Sorry its been a while. I've had TOTAL art burnout since the middle of last semester and haven't done a thing since. Got layed off from one of my jobs as well and just not caring about a whole lot. I have no idea what to do with my life. :(

Anyway, tell me something happy. How was your semester overall?

The color test lineup is cool but I'm not getting a good read on the first lady. Are those blues going to mesh well with certain background colors? The other 3 have a good direction and of course all your small subtle linework is topnotch as usual. You seem to be having a lot of fun with costumes.

wow :/ suck!
but at least you got some commissions, right? 83 it can't be all bad ^^ we all go though our slumps from time to time - i had a bad go of head drawing over the summer with tennant and to add injury to insult gained 15 lbs in the last three weeks AND had a horrible time trying to get back into the swing of doing graphic novel.

i swear gary wanted to throw me out of the window! XD i was a dunce for at least half of the semester! sometimes you just have to keep working ^^ you'll never know what'll get you out of your slump - i even had to learn to like my project! for awhile there i was going to restart with something else ;D

i do love costumes! @3@ if i ever get published i want a runway reception in paris!!! XD with maple bacon muffins and pot stickers.

osaja is a hard case, she took the longest of all of them (she's more electric blue/purple on my screen) she has to conform to her house's color scheme without being too garish - they're crashed in a forest so she will stick out as she is an sky/air creature.

i keep working and tweaking it - i need to add mata and clarimonde ulrich to the lineup tonight ^^
